Fifth grade is an exciting time as your child embarks on a new journey, that encourages a higher degree of independance. Throughout the school year, your child will be immersed in a variety of different learning opportunities across the different subjects.

Here are some ways you can help your child succeed this year:

  • Celebrate your child’s success, no matter how small it may seem.  This will keep him/her enthusiastic about learning and proud of their work.
  • Ensure that your child gets enough rest, exercise and a balanced diet.  Please encourage him/her to bring a water bottle filled with fresh water daily.
  • It is very important that your child bring the agenda to school every day.  It will be used as our primary form of communication between home and school. It will also allow your child to become a more organized, and independant learner. Please help your child by signing it on a nightly basis.

The amount of homework that is given will be determined by how effectively your child uses their class time. There will be a variety of projects throughout the year that will be mainly worked on at home. Other than that, the vast majority of work will be completable during class time. I understand that many students have multiple extra-curricular commitments, and I want to make sure that the amount of homework will not impede these interests.

Please do not hesitate to contact me at anytime. The best ways to contact me are:

-Writing a note in your child's agenda

-Sending me an e-mail

I sincerely look forward to working with you and your child in Grade Five! I will be teaching your child Language Arts, Math, Science, Social Studies and Physical Education.

Parent Tips

I believe in an open communication between parents, teacher, and students. Please inquire as often as possible about what your child is learning on a daily basis, and how they are feeling about their learning.
