5.5 Mme Sollecito

Welcome to/Bienvenue à 5.5!

Dear Parents,

Welcome to a brand new school year! This year will be an exciting time for all of us – stepping into middle school, new curriculum and new routines and challenges. I will be teaching your child’s core Grade 5 classes - Math, Social Studies, French Language Arts and Science as well as Physical Education and Art. There will be a few other teachers that will teach music, drama and health classes weekly. Over the course of the year, your child will improve their language skills and learn about a variety of subjects. I hope to make your child’s learning experiences a fun and exciting one and establish a lasting love of learning.

Here are some ways you can help your child succeed this year:

Celebrate your child’s success, no matter how small it may seem. This will keep him/her enthusiastic about learning and proud of their work.

Ensure that your child gets enough rest, exercise and a balanced diet. Please encourage him/her to bring a water bottle filled with fresh water daily.

It is extremely important that your child uses an agenda, which will be provided by the school. At this level it is expected that he/she begins to record homework and other important information independently. The homework load will vary throughout the year. There will be a variety of projects and presentations to prepare. If your child has unfinished work from class, it should be completed at home.

Please feel free to contact me at any time via email. I am looking forward to working with you and your child in Grade Five!

Ms./Mme. Lucia Sollecito

Parent Tips

I encourage you as parents/guardians to be actively involved in your child's school life.  I believe when parents and teachers work together, children can be successful in their learning.

  • Please visit powerschool bi-weekly so that you are up to date with your child’s assignments, class schedule/timelines, attendance, and marks. You will have to use their login information to access this information.
  • Powerschool technical assistance for parents can be found at: http://www.rockyview.ab.ca/families/families/powerschool
  • You can find the curriculum link for your child’s grade and subjects at: http://www.learnalberta.ca/content/mychildslearning/index.html
  • This year I will not be emailing a newsletter home each week. Instead, I have created a class blog to better communicate ALL things happening in the 5.5 classroom this year. Please click on the following link http://schoolblogs.rockyview.ab.ca/lsollecito/ to access the blog and also note that it is password protected so only parents/guardians are able to view the content. The password will be shared with families via email.

If you have any questions or concerns please email me at:  lsollecito@rockyview.ab.ca or phone me at: 403-242-4456
